Review of Karthik's songs from OK Kanmani

THE HINDU - SRINIVASA RAMANUJAM

Parandhu Sella Vaa is slow, sensuous and almost likeSillunu Oru Kadhal’s Maja Maja in terms of feel. But when Karthik breaks into the Nanaindhu Kollavaphrase at the middle of the song, it feels like all is okay. What follows is some musical bliss.
Aye Sinamika sees singer Karthik do what he does best – dishing out a breezy tune in his inimitable style.

MUSICALOUD
Parandhu Sella Vaa - Karthik and Shashaa Tirupati’s pitch-perfect rendition of the melody (watch out for that beautiful carnatic segue) receives a rather contrasting acappella-eque support for most part. It is only in the final two minutes that a gorgeous strings section kicks in that takes the tune to a new high.
Karthik gets a second romantic melody too in the soundtrack, the one whose promo came out a couple of days back – Hey Sinamika. In its entirety the song is even more impressive – the tune is charming, the breezy arrangement makes it more so, and Karthik is flawless as always

Parandhu sella va is almost an acapella and scintillatingly so. Karthik hums away to glory making ur feet tap to the beat. Karthik and Sasha are at their sensual best imbuing that naughtiness ( if u know what i mean ). And then like the sudden speed breaker on the smooth expressway , the singers break into an aalap on the hindolam detour and you go ada – doesn’t it sound similar to singaravelane deva at this place or oh there is this nod to varaayo vennilave.Oh and its a karthik – ARR song after ages and this man can sound really romantic and make hearts skip beats.Oh and the violins and Pararirarithaaaaaaa – and I can no longer write about the song cos I want pull my man into a dance before the song ends.
And the second Karthik song starts with chords and flute and a weird name ( who would ever call their kid or lover sinamika . What does that word mean Duh? ). Nee ennai neengathe begins and all the ennui flies away and boy this vairamuthu is one young guy in his mind – he has this absolute gamut of words to describe a woman. The strings and the chorus build the song into a crescendo mid way and I imagine Nitya Menon with her hair out in the wind riding pillion behind the hero on the bike. ( yes I am that crazy about the cliche) . Before I forget , the guitars and the drums deserve special credit . I was on a drive today , playing this song on the stereo and did this song sound awesome or what and the subtle flute – ecstasy personified I say.

BEHINDWOODS
Aye Sinamika
An extremely laid back trance like number with the ever sweet sounding Karthik, redefines the word modern classiness! The mild guitar strums, piano touches and timely bass work just add the icing on the cake in Rahman’s style.

Paranthu Sella Vaa
A funky number with Reggae rhythm and mellowed bass section. Extremely casual singing that creates an impact. A clever blend of Indian melody and chill out lounge music, it is Chennai meets a remote island in Cuba, in terms of music!

INDIAGLITZ

Aye Sinamika
Next one in line must also be a familiar tune, given the latest teaser. Get ready to lose yourself in the magic of ARR-Karthik combo, on a melody. This number, written in pristine Tamil, has minimalistic lyrics for its length at six and a half minutes, but greats you in warmth, complete with the emotion of a love-struck charming man. The song graduates to sound from studio to concert-level, through its length, with all the variation worked out predominantly on guitar, intelligent flute and a wide range of beats. Get ready for a refreshing experience with this romantic solo.

Paranthu Sella Vaa
The first non-thematic duet of the album is a peppy number. The song opens in Shashaa's voice, as though it is a melody. What adds colour to this track is the intelligent choice of background - for a quarter of the length of the song, what adds volume to the voice in fore is humming in male voice, on a three-scale gradient, in addition to a rattling roll. Almost half way through, rendition turns carnatic, and then graduates back to peppy notes, with the addition of Karthik's voice, thus ending in a chorus. Towards the end, there is a sharp increase in violins for background, and the song trails in the instrument's notes

DNA

Aye Sinamika is soothing, romantic and young. The guitar acoustics are impeccable and Karthik's soulful music forces you to put the song on repeat mode.

Paranthu Sella Vaa is another brilliant composition in the album. The song begins with Shaasha's voice as if it were a slow, melody number. But, immediately after that Karthik joins in and the song turns into a peppy one.

HINDUSTAN TIMES
Aye Sinamika
Versatile playback singer Karthik is back with a soulful number but one whose rendition is completely contemporary. It's young, there's longing and its ends with a sense of fulfillment.

MILLIBLOG

The soundtrack’s best is the free-flowing Parandhu sella vaa, with 60s Tamil style ‘Putham pudhu oli’ layered over lively vocal effects and ends on a high.

11 years of Mr. and Mrs. Karthik: Some Facts about the Lovely Couple.

Today, Karthik and Ambika are celebrating their 11th wedding anniversary. They got married on 12th July, 2006 in Tirupati. Here are some facts you may want to know about the lovely couple Karthik met his wife Ambika during a concert in Malaysia. She was a jazz dancer with RAACK Academy of Dance. They remained friends for a year and a half before they “arranged” their marriage the traditional way, with the consent of their parents, matching horoscopes and all. Today, the couple has two children: Kadambari and Nandan. Ambika is a very cheerful and balanced person. She does not make it a big deal that Karthik is an eminent singer. Karthik says, "In fact, I don’t think she’s asked me to sing a song for her even once. But I love her that way.” She acts as a leveller whenever Karthik goes through an emotional roller coaster. She is firmly grounded and brings him to terra firma.  Ambika has contributed immensely to his classy wardrobe collection. Karthik has even dedicat

The focus should be on Karthik's work rather than his looks or family

For the past 1-2 years, I've been asked by many a fan the same question(s), “Have you seen Karthik's son? Can you send me his photo if you have one?”. For which I reply, “ Trust me. I don't have a single photo of even Karthik”. Fans who don't share their own pictures on Facebook due to a privacy concern are asking this question. Mind you! Over the years, I've seen fans complaining more about “OMG Is he losing his hair?” and less about “Why isn't Karthik singing a Hindi song?”. (And finally when he got a nice hairdo, some were of the opinion that he shouldn't have done that!) His pictures getting 10X likes than his amazing singing videos hurts my little soul. My focus has always been on his singing. Call me strange. But I'm least bothered about his family or his looks. “Will Mr. A R Rahman give a song for Karthik in his upcoming album” has been my only worry! I've been a fan ever since I heard his “Girlfriend” song and never bothered
